Back from RailsConfEurope07

5 1/2 hour train from Heidelburg to Berlin.
Arrived at the closed Tegel Airport at 1 AM and sat on a bench till they opened at 4 AM.
Waited for 7:30 AM flight to London.
Layover, and then ~12 hour flight to San Diego.
Through customs and flight to San Jose.
Bus to Cal Train Station.
1 1/2 hour Cal Train to the Bart Station.
Bart to 24 and Guerrero.
Home! Whew! What a ride.

Germany was absolutely beautiful. The conference was a blast, and had the best food I’ve ever had at a lunch break. The talk went well I think, and you can see the slides, which have a few cool rails tricks embedded, here:

  1. John Barton Says:

I might be missing something obvious but I’ve been through the edge rails docs and can’t find controller.total_runtime, is that defined in a plugin somewhere?

  2. Britt Says:

Sorry, total_runtime is just a wrapper method around a global variable of the same name. It’s in the ResponseManagementAdditions module.

  3. Florian Says:

Did you benchmark the show_runtimes method? I’m not really feeling comfortable putting that in because of the gsub on the whole html doc.

  4. Britt Says:

    Hey Florian!

    No, I haven’t benchmarked the benchmark :)
Maybe a more effective approach would just be using erb, but regardless of the technique I’m confident that the benefit/render time tradeoff is well worth it when the site’s in a tiff.

But yes, you raise a good point. Will probably make this a debug toggle.
