Bryan Clark wrote a cool little post on mashing google calendar into the Gnome Calendar/Clock panel widget.

For Ubuntu users, the same instructions apply, except from the terminal type: 
/usr/lib/evolution-webcal/evolution-webcal $GOOGLE_ICAL_URL
