Rails day is over!

Jesse, Chad, and I wrote a scorched earth style tank game on top of google maps. Jesse had to do some wild and crazy reverse engineering on the maps api in order do crazy cool things like plop and remove waypoints without reloading the map (to ensure no flicker when moving around on the map, for example).

The game is a bit rough right now, as we didn’t have time to really polish the play before commiting our final revision at 1am, but we’re going to clean it up over the next few days and make a release, as well as add some good stuff to the google maps wiki.

Here’s a teaser … more to come. (check overstimulate.com for ingame shot)

hi, i have just started a similar project and was very surprised (or net) to see somebody else came up with something like playing on gmaps. Have you read the terms of use? i’m not quite sure to release mine

I’m not sure what the terms of service say regarding these types of things, but google has always seemed open to people using maps for ‘cool projects.’ So release it and make sure you post the link here or email me!

(We may actually release Gank one of these days … it’s still in need of quite a bit of cleaning up :)
